Bodies in Urban Spaces – A Moving Trail for a Group of Dancers
The Public Space as a Stage
The choreographer Willi Dorner and his 20 dancers seek out with their bodies public and semi-public spaces in Bad Gleichenberg with the intention of changing the spectator's perspective. The dance performance called 'Bodies in Urban Spaces' takes place during regionale08. Setting out from a previously agreed starting point, the spectators follow the moving mass through public or semi-public spaces such as squares, streets, passage-ways, shopping malls, and other locations. A chain of rapidly created individual body-sculptures opens new vistas and insights that give the town a new face and different contours.
This parcours also invites the spectators to look at Bad Gleichenberg from a new angle and to change their habitual way of seeing things. Guests and passers-by are swept-up into this journey of experiences which anchor the places they visit with new mental images. "The body is the tool used to perceive the dimensions of space. By placing the body in relation to space and architecture", says Willi Dorner, "it not only serves as a gauge, but rather gives space a new meaning." By literally filling gaps, not only new dimensions but also the contrariness of body and architecture become visible.
