The Pavel House
An Open View of the Orient
In the context of regionale08, the Pavel House stands for the terms: pre history, post history, post hierarchy. These are socio-cultural projects that can be ‘touched'. The related topical signature is common to the numerous projects, i.e. they leave their mark on the public space for the duration of regionale08.
The range of offers extends from the wall-newspaper ‘ausreisser' (run away) to the exhibition ‘From the Divan into the Saddle or How the Marlboro Man Conquered the Orient', to next code: divan, which, with the help of multimedia, looks at the varied phenomenon 'Balkan'. Using an interactive video installation from cym, a virtual subway network is created in the art cellar of the initiative Wd8 in Walkersdorf, which will elevate the village in eastern Styria to the ‘Centre of the World' and the metropolis at the interface of Orient-Occident. The artist Erwin Posarnig argues against rigid religiousness and narrow-mindedness with his ‘Presents for Cultural Remembrance' He will interfere with the great opening on 4 July with specifically targeted disruptive actions. The initiative IEFS Performance aims at making the public space an area of interaction, and by doing so, convert the spectators of regionale08 to active players.
